BLOWSER SAVES THE DAY:
A TINY TALE FOR TOOTH TIME
Once upon a time there was a mischievous wind named Blowzer. She loved creating havoc and tossing things about. Blowzer loved to roar in off the ocean, pounding the shore with white-capped waves. Blowzer loved to soar into the atmosphere stirring up squalls on mountain slopes. Blowzer loved to streak across open fields, bending wheat down low and pushing clouds up high across the sky. Blowser loved to howl through forests rattling leaves and snapping branches. Blowzer especially loved to wait until Papa had put out all of his patio cushions before she started to play.
The day of our story Blowzer was having a grand time gusting around the ranges of the high plains making horses’ tails lash. She knew that if she swooped through at just the right angle she could make the tail of one horse whack another horse right in the face. This made Blowzer laugh and laugh but it did not amuse the horses, which huddled into a group and turned their rumps to the big wind. Aw, thought Blowzer, they don’t want to play. So Blowzer blew on.
She puffed along halfheartedly for many miles when she spotted a flotilla of sailboats on a great lake. She blasted among the boats making them pitch and roll until they reefed their sails and headed for the harbor. Aw, thought Blowzer, the boats do not want me around either.
So Blowzer blew on.
At last Blowzer came to an ocean beach where she saw a little girl, her daddy and a yellow kite. The girl and her daddy were running and running and running up and down the strand. The kite was limply bumping and dragging along behind them. There was not enough breeze to make the kite fly. Do you know what Blowzer decided to to? That’s right! She kicked up a great gale to carry the kite high into the sky. Soon the girl was squealing with delight. This made Blowzer very happy and she showed-off a bit by sending the kite into twirls and dips and dives. She even threw in a few loop-the-loops for good measure.
“When the wind blows in loop-the-loops,” the daddy told his little girl, “it means it is having fun.”
And he was right.
The End.
